Frequently Asked Questions
What is a snuffle mat?
A snuffle mat is a foraging toy made from fleece strips woven through a rubber or fabric base. You scatter dry treats or kibble through the fleece, and your dog uses their nose to find them. It's a simple concept with a surprisingly powerful effect: most dogs stay engaged for 15–30 minutes, and the concentration involved leaves them genuinely calm afterward. Think of it as a nose workout rather than physical exercise.
What size should I get?
As a general guide: the Starter Snuffle Mat works well for small breeds and puppies; the Everyday Snuffle Mat suits most medium to large dogs and is our most popular; the Pro Snuffle Mat is designed for larger dogs and dogs with high drive who need more of a challenge. If you're between sizes, go up — a larger mat is more forgiving and offers more room for treats. You can find the size breakdown on each product page.
How do I use it?
Scatter dry kibble, small training treats, or broken-up pieces of a larger treat through the fleece. Set the mat on a flat, non-slip surface and let your dog sniff away. That's it. For the first session, make it easy — place a few treats close to the surface so your dog gets the idea quickly. As they get the hang of it, hide treats deeper in the fleece for a bigger challenge.
How do I wash it?
Machine wash on a gentle or delicate cycle in cold water. Air dry flat — do not put it in the dryer, since heat can damage the fleece. Most mats are fully dry within a few hours. Give it a good shake before washing to remove any remaining treat crumbs. We recommend washing after every 2–3 uses to keep it fresh and safe.
Is it safe for my dog?
Yes, with a bit of common sense. Supervise your dog for the first few sessions until you're confident they're sniffing rather than chewing or pulling out the fleece. If your dog is an aggressive chewer, check the mat periodically for loose strips. The mats are made from non-toxic materials, but they are not indestructible chew toys — they're enrichment tools meant to be sniffed, not eaten.
How long does shipping take?
Orders are processed within 1–3 business days. Delivery typically takes 7–15 business days from when your order ships. We work with carefully selected international suppliers to bring you the best enrichment products at honest prices, and we'll always be upfront about timelines. You'll receive a tracking number by email once your order ships so you can follow it the whole way.
Do you ship internationally?
Right now we ship to the US only. We're working on expanding — check back or sign up for our email list to hear when international shipping becomes available.
What if my dog isn't interested?
Don't give up after the first session. Try using a higher-value treat than you normally would — a small piece of cheese, a bit of meat, or their favorite training treat. You can also place the mat at mealtime and use part of their regular kibble. Most dogs figure it out within 2–3 sessions. If after a week your dog still isn't engaging with it, reach out at getsnoutjoy@gmail.com and we'll help troubleshoot, or process a return if it's within the 30-day window.
Can I return it?
Yes. We offer a 30-day return policy from the date your order arrives. To be eligible for a return, the mat must be unused and in its original condition. To start a return, email us at getsnoutjoy@gmail.com with your order number and we'll take it from there. If your order arrived damaged, see the Shipping & Returns page for what to do — we handle those cases immediately and at no cost to you.
